Permitted paid engagements

Permitted Paid Engagement Visa | Amicis Legal Services Ltd

The Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visit Visa provides a unique opportunity for selected professionals and experts to visit the UK for up to 1 month and engage in paid activities related to their expertise and occupation.

It’s important to note that the Permitted Paid Engagement Visa does not lead to settlement in the UK, and each visitor must make a separate application, even if they are part of a group.

Requirements for a Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa

To be eligible for a Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a visa national (unless eligible for entry as a Visitor on arrival).
  • Intend to undertake one or more permitted paid engagements specified in the Immigration Rules.
  • Have a pre-arranged and formally invited engagement with a UK-based organization or client related to your expertise and occupation overseas.
  • Not undertake any prohibited activities.
  • Have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs during your visit without accessing public funds or working in the UK.
  • Intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit and not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits.
  • Not fall under the general grounds for refusal.
  • Have obtained an Electronic Travel Authorisation if required.

Specific requirements may vary depending on individual circumstances, and seeking advice from an immigration lawyer is advisable.

Visa National Requirement

Visa nationals are required to apply for a Visit Visa before traveling to the UK. The Home Office has published a list of nationalities that must apply in advance, but certain exceptions allow some visa nationals to seek entry as a Visitor upon arrival.

Non-visa nationals can typically seek entry as a Visitor upon arrival in the UK. However, they must still meet entry requirements, including explaining the purpose of their visit, demonstrating sufficient funds, and providing return travel arrangements.

Qualifying Permitted Paid Engagements

The Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa is available for the following professionals and experts:

  • Professional artists, entertainers, and musicians engaged in activities directly related to their profession, such as performances and presentations.
  • Qualified sportspersons undertaking paid activities related to their profession, such as interviews or contract discussions.
  • Examiners and lecturers invited by UK higher education institutions or research/arts organizations for exams, lectures, or selection panels.
  • Designated air pilot examiners assessing UK-based pilots’ compliance with international aviation regulations.
  • Qualified lawyers providing advocacy for legal proceedings in the UK, invited by clients.

Additional Requirements for Permitted Paid Engagements

The paid engagement must be pre-arranged and evidenced by a formal invitation related to your expertise and occupation overseas.

Intention to Leave the UK Requirement

You must demonstrate that you will leave the UK at the end of your visit and not use frequent or successive visits to live in the UK or make it your main home. The Home Office considers factors like immigration history, financial circumstances, and ties to the country of residence.

Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa Financial Requirement

You must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs during your visit without relying on public funds or working in the UK. Third parties can provide financial support, but they must have a genuine relationship with you and be legally allowed to support you.

Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa Validity Period

The Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa is valid for 1 month.

Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa Right to Work

Visitors are permitted to undertake the specific paid engagement declared in their visa application. However, the visa cannot be used for repeat temporary employment in the UK, and the visitor’s primary employment must remain overseas.

Engaging in other employment, establishing or running a business, working for a UK organization, or providing goods or services in the UK is not allowed under this visa.

Permitted Paid Engagement Visit Visa Application Fees
