On 17 July 2023 the UK Government published changes to the Immigration Rules which affect international students studying in the UK. From January 2024, international students in the UK will no longer be able to bring dependants on their Student visa, unless they are studying a postgraduate research programme.

Furthermore, from 17 July 2023 international students are no longer permitted to switch to work route visas unless they have completed their course. 

When will the new rules come into effect?

The new rules on student dependents will apply to international students commencing their course in January 2024.

In respect of switching into other visas became law from 17 July 2023 at 3pm.

The graduate visa is not affected by these new changes.
